Laptop, beside a mug of mulled wine, a candle, glasses, and a pink notebook with Grafto branding on a wooden table, creating a cozy setting.

The end of the year is approaching, and it is always a time to slow down, look back, and review your past year. Whether you reflect with a warm cup of mulled wine, cocoa, or just a moment of quiet focus, the value of this pause is undeniable.

Reflecting on my own year, I was instantly reminded of the meditation retreat in India where I travelled in January. I arrived expecting instant enlightenment and a brain like a calm blue lake. Instead, for the first days, my thoughts were more like a loud, chaotic marching band that refused to take even a moment's rest. The idea of "Zen" stillness felt like a joke. Yet, halfway through the programme, something shifted. The band finally stopped playing. I found myself falling into hours of true stillness, completely forgetting where I was.

I returned home determined to integrate that stillness into my busy life. I realised the profound benefit was not the ability to empty my mind, but the clarity that came from it. I have become much more intentional about where I give my energy, honouring my own values without explanations, and—crucially—respecting that other people have the right to do exactly the same.

In addition to meditation, writing gave me my greatest clarity. It was wonderful to see that once the chatter in my mind was externalised, I could look back and laugh at the parts that made absolutely no sense.

This holiday season, I invite you to embrace the practice of writing with Grafto. To help you navigate the "uncomfortable but constructive truths" and find your own clarity, I have curated these writing prompts from the past year:
